HALPATTER BREWING CO AND WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT.

Halpatter Brewing Co is a MUST stop while visiting the wonderful Lake City, FL. Halpatter Brewery is located in Historic part of the city where you can find a bunch of Amazing buildings and Structures that have been sitting there since the establishment of the city. The Halpatter Brewery building was constructed in 1939 but finished in 1940 as Lake City's city hall and re-purposed over the years for plenty other uses. This building sat dormant for years until the two brother in-laws saved it from being torn down.

FOUNDERS OF HALPATTER BREWING CO

Brother-in-laws Chris Candler and Jeremy Gable being located at different parts of Florida were both responsible for bringing the first craft brewery to Lake City, at first with just being interested in crafting their own beer intending only to make it a great beer to share with friends and family. After a few brewing sessions and conversing back and forth. They began discussing the creation of one of the youngest distributing breweries in Florida.

MY EXPERIENCE

As one would think pulling up to a city hall with big decorative stairs leading up to the front entrance of the Brewery. You could only assume something strange is about to occur when you walk in through the front door. Boy was i wrong, as we entered i couldn't help but notice the beautiful renovation of the inside (the outside looks like you're entering the ole county jail but the inside is somewhat of the inside of a beautifully made log cabin). Anyway, as we were very generously greeted and took a seat at the bar in front of everything we came here for.

As I'm looking up at the draft menu and all the beers they have on draft I become overwhelmed with the selection. It being my first time there as well as first time trying good beer, i was simply shocked and had no idea what to order but thankfully they had flights, which is a choice of 4 different drinks about half the size served via a very nicely crafted wooden tray of cup holders. I enjoyed one of the signature beers "Seymour Finnegan" as well as "Tiki Sour". After this trip i found that i am a huge fan of Sours.

HALPATTER SIGNATURE DRINKS

SEYMOUR FINNEGAN

This smooth, malty and deliciously tasting Irish Red Ale "Seymour Finnegan" was named after two opposing Generals, General Truman Seymour of the USA and General Andrew Finnegan of the CSA who fought in Florida's only major battle during the civil war called the "Battle of Olustee" and is now memorialized as a 3 day long festival where they reenact the "Battle of Olustee" usually held in the month of February.

BIG HAL

The Big Hal is an American Brown Ale that pays specific homage to Halpatter Tustenuggee, a well respected Seminole Indian Chief that at one time occupied the area of lake city and led his tribe in fighting against the US Army at lake Okeechobee on Christmas day1837. The Seminole Tribe put up a great fight killing and wounding more soldiers than Seminolees.

OLD SCHOOL

Old School is a Session IPA named after The University of Florida which in its earlier days was called The Florida Agricultural College founded in 1884. Since then those "Old School" facilities were demolished an now stands a VA hospital.

O'LENO

O'Leno is a Cream Ale won a silver medal from Florida's Best Beer Competition back in 2019. Named after Florida's first state park developed by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930's which started as a relief program for millions of men during the Great Depression.

MY REVIEW

I enjoyed everything about the place from the generous customer service to the whole renovation on the inside. Even the bathrooms look pretty cool because they kept the old school look and mixed it in with a modern look. Really good drinks, really good food and people that work there are very relatable. Overall i give Halpatter a 4 star. GO CHECK THEM OUT https://halpatterbrewing.com/ or visit them when your passing through Lake city FL.
